PET FRIENDLY HOLIDAY PARKS IN AUSTRALIA

8 Aug 2018

Pets are more than just hounds and felines - they’re part of the family. That means when we go on holidays, they love to come and join in the fun, too (and so they should!).

BRUCEY THE PUG

To celebrate our love affair with our pet pals at G’DAY Magazine, we held a little pet competition around the country. Contestants were asked to share their favourite pet photo and memory with us. We’re excited to introduce you to our winner - Brucey the pug. Owner Shannon Doherty reckons this four-legged water baby loves a beach adventure just as much as anyone with two. “Brucey learnt how to swim down along the Yorke Peninsula and now the beach is his favourite place. He loves it whenever we go away by the coastline. He’s the first in the water!”

WHERE ELSE CAN YOU BRING YOUR FURRY FRIEND?

Here are 10 pet friendly parks to visit on your next holiday.

Discovery Parks - Maidens Inn Moama, NSW

“We get a lot of tourists who choose to stay with us because we’re dog friendly, and all of our park annuals have pets. Around 90% of our sites that allow dogs have them when people stay with us, so it’s obviously really important to them.”
Darryn Jones, manager

Discovery Parks - Airlie Beach, QLD

“These days most pets are the families fur child, and any holiday would not be the same without the kids! We even allow pets in our cabins to keep the family together.”
Bianca Paradies, assistant manager

Discovery Parks - Hadspen, TAS

“Pets definitely create more interactions between travellers visiting our park. We’re looking at updating our cabins in the next year or so with fenced areas specifically for pets.”
Dimity Davey, assistant manager

Pet Friendly Parks

Discovery Parks - Port Hedland, WA

“It’s very special for travellers who are able to bring their pets to our park because for a lot of people they’re their main travel companions.”
Clair Rossouw, manager

Discovery Parks - Robe, SA

“We’re all pet lovers here. The park has a cat called Ivy. She just rocked up one day and took a liking to the staff. We’re also starting a pooch pack which will have information about dog friendly areas, cafés and wineries in the town and surrounding region.”
Lonny Peel, marketing

Portland Tourist Park, VIC

“We have eight dogs, including a rescue dog, that belong to people that live in our park permanently. I think the people who are able to bring their pets are so much happier. They don’t all have children so being able to bring pets really brings them a lot of joy.”
Denise Pekin, manager

Riverview Tourist Village, NT

“Our two resident pugs Miss Molly and Lewis have a little yard out the front of our building. The kids just love it, and the dogs love getting pats.”
Wendy Batten, manager

Pet Friendly Parks

Margaret River Tourist Park, WA

“Around Christmas time, people dress their pets up and let them run around. The kids love it, and so do we!”
Sue Calder, manager

Waterloo Bay Tourist Park, SA

“The whole family can come and enjoy themselves because a dog is a part of the family. We’ve got Town Beach below our park which is a pet friendly beach where people can let their dogs off their leads.”
Maryann Van Dyk, manager

Lake Tinaroo Holiday Park, QLD

“We have our Ridgeback Molly, two guinea pigs Rocky and Pebbles and five budgies who’ve just had chicks! People come and learn their names and have a look or a play. The children love it! We have pet parking facilities and sell dog toys as well.”
Leah O’Connor, manager

Note: pet policy varies from park to park.
